English Grammar and Vocabulary for Academic Writting

The goal of the textbook English Grammar and Vocabulary for Academic Writing is to help researchers sharpen their writing skills in English for academic purposes. The focus is on optimizing sentence structure and sequence and on grammar and vocabulary that will make the writing clear, concise and appropriate for the target audience. The coursebook is a guidance on English to gain confidence and competence in writing scientific texts and learn some strategies for expressing the intended meaning in English and for reflecting on their own writing style.

Every unit offers explicit application of the target grammar in writing. This allows learners to practice using the grammar in their writing as it focuses their attention on the most relevant and accurate information. The charts, lists and explanations/notes teach students how grammar is used with special information about the differences between formal and informal use. Each issue is illustrated with examples of stimulating contemporary texts that respect learner´s intelligence and interest. It offers possibility to apply the grammar in numerous practice exercises facilitating acquisition as well.

The book is devided into eleven units, each of them deals with a particular grammatical issue (Sentence Construction, Information Packaging, Varying sentence Structure, Review of English Tenses, Conditional Sentences in Academic Writing, Passive Voice in Academic Writing, Articles in Academic Writing, Modal Verbs in Academic Writing) or vocabulary in use (Adjectives in Academic Writing, Verbs in Academic Writing, Academic Vocabulary). Apart of these topics, there are appendixes included presenting important and useful vocabulary lists (Academic Collocation List, Academic Formulas List, Adjectives for Personal Qualities, Phrases for Personal Qualities, Action Verbs). Moreover, there is a full answer key for all of the practice exercises included at the back of the book. This helps learners stay motivated and encourages self-reflection as it enables them to self-check.
